Each year, almost 7 million people in India suffer devastating burn injuries.
More than 140,000 lose their lives.
We are committed to change these numbers.
healing burns, transforming lives
More than 140,000 burn victims are left with crippling deformities each year. They can no longer work, they stop going to school and often never leave home. They are ashamed, embarrassed by the scars and the deep psychological wounds. Women and children bear the brunt, often due to unsafe cooking practices or domestic accidents. Without specialized care, survival rates drop, leaving survivors with lifelong scars. The Varanasi Burn Institute, a Center for Advanced Burn Care, led by Dr. Subodh Kumar Singh, is rising to meet this crisis in Varanasi, long known as a spiritual city of hope.

We are committed to care for the poor and underserved in this country.
Comprehensive Care our solution
will be a lifeline for burn survivors
We are building the largest comprehensive burn center in India. Construction is well underway with completion slated for November 2026. This state-of-the-art facility will serve a population of nearly 500 million people in states around Varanasi. Doctors from around the country and Southeast Asia will train here. This center is set to lead India’s burn care revolution. Here we will be able to provide the long term care necessary for healing the most advanced cases. ICU beds will have individual air handling units to prevent infection and the region’s first skin bank will help us provide life-saving grafts. Because this facility will be dedicated solely to burn victims, we can provide a holistic approach that includes comprehensive rehabilitation and the continued research to find advanced solutions for these injuries.
The Varanasi Burn Institute will transform lives with:
• 126-Bed Facility: Phase I (62 beds) and Phase II (64 beds)
• Regional Skin Bank: The first in the area, providing life-saving grafts.
• 26 ICU beds with individual Air Handling Units.
• 24/7 Emergency Services: Dedicated burn ambulances for rapid response.
• Telemedicine Facility: Connecting remote areas for expert care.
• Comprehensive Rehabilitation: Support for survivors’ mobility and quality of life.
• Research Unit: Advancing solutions for burn injuries.
• Training Hub: Educating medical staff nationwide.
The Center for Advanced Burn Care
healing burns, transforming lives
“It has always been my dream
to build a state-of-the-art
burn center in India.”
This has been my dream ever since I was a resident in general surgery. After plastic surgery this dream became even stronger. Burns are an affliction of the poor. And the poor can’t get good treatment. Burn patients are a very critical patients in any hospital. Nobody seems to want to take care of them because the care is very labor intensive. More often than not the results are not good because hospitals are not adopting the modern methods of treatment.
Dr. Subodh Singh
What you can do, will save lives and impact the world.
This is not just hyperbole. Support for this new institute will change the lives of patients. VBI - the Center for Advanced Burn Care will provide inspiration and dramatically improve the standards of care for burn victims in India and south Asian countries. Burn injuries pose a significant public health challenge in India due to a combination of high incidence rates, inadequate healthcare infrastructure, and socio-cultural factors. By supporting the VBI your help will truly save lives.
